Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk: Man City’s Raheem Sterling is the best

Liverpool vs Man City

Liverpool and Manchester City are both in the Champions League action today.

The Reds welcome Porto to Anfield in their UCL quarterfinal first leg.

As for Man City, they head to north London to take on Tottenham in the all-English tie.

In the Premier League, Liverpool are once again ahead of City.

The Sky Blues, who booked their spot in the FA Cup final last weekend, are two points behind Liverpool but they have a game in hand.

Virgil van Dijk: Raheem Sterling is the best

Who will win the PFA Player of the Year award?

Virgil van Dijk faced the press on Monday before the Porto game, and the Dutch defender revealed he’s voted for Raheem Sterling.

For the record, Premier League footballers are prohibited from voting for players on their own team with regard to this award.

So why did VVD plump for Sterling? The Reds centre-half explained:

I voted for Raheem Sterling. I did what I thought and I thought he deserves it. He’s had a fantastic season.

I think I could have voted for Bernardo Silva as well and another couple of players from Manchester City.

But I am just being honest. I think he has improved a lot as a player. We will see if he wins it.

Raheem Sterling on racism in football

Raheem Sterling also faced the press on Monday before the Spurs match.

In light of the appalling recent incidents of racism, Sterling was asked if he supported those advocating for players to walk off the pitch. He said:

I wouldn’t personally agree with it. At the end of the day, I would rather go and win the game because that would hurt them even more.

They’re trying to get you down, if you do walk off the pitch as a group then that makes them win. If you score a goal to win the match, then that’s even a better feeling which beats them.

But everyone is different, everyone has their own different opinion, they take things emotionally and you have to support everyone in it.
