Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk is better than Leo Messi & how why Australia need to leave Celtic alone – Chris Sutton

Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk is better than Leo Messi

Speaking on BT Sport this weekend, Chris Sutton made a huge statement about Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk.

Van Dijk has been widely praised this season as Liverpool have only conceded seven goals in the Premier League.

On Friday night at Wolves, Van Dijk scored his first league goal for Liverpool in a 2-0 away win.

Doing the business at both ends of the pitch, Chris Sutton has hailed Van Dijk as the current best footballer in the world.

For what it’s worth, Sutton’s statement wasn’t accepted by some of his fellow talking-heads.

Jermaine Jenas struggled to accept that the Liverpool centre-half is a better footballer than Barcelona’s Leo Messi.

Australia & Celtic

Chris Sutton managed to upset Australian soccer fans this weekend.

Sutton, the former Celtic centre-forward, made the argument that Australia shouldn’t pick their international stars from Celtic for upcoming international matches.

Australia are taking part in the AFC Asian Cup. The Socceroos will take on Jordan, Palestine and Syria in the group stage.

Tom Rogic is set to leave Celtic to play for his national team, which will mean he misses that Old Firm clash with Rangers on December 29.

Sutton has slammed Australia for denying Celtic one of their key attacking assets:

What has upset me is the Rogic situation and him not being able to play against Rangers.

Australia have got Jordan in the Asian Cup. They don’t need Tom Rogic to bump Jordan! Absolutely not.

It’s not right. There are a lot of Scottish football fans who think the Socceroos should shove their XXXX where the sun don’t shine.

It’s not on! It’s Mickey Mouse football. Stick to your prawns and your BBQs Australia.
