Liverpool’s title-clinching fixture one of 6 PL games to be played out at neutral venue

As confirmed by a number of outlets online this afternoon, as many as 6 of the remaining fixtures on the Premier League calendar, including Liverpool’s eventual title-clincher, are expected to be played at neutral venues.

Liverpool’s title charge

Jurgen Klopp’s men have of course enjoyed a historic domestic campaign to date.

As things stand, the Reds sit a staggering 25 points clear of 2nd-placed Manchester City atop the English top-flight.

This comes with Liverpool having dropped points in just 2 of their 29 league fixtures this season.

The Merseysiders’ relentless charge towards the club’s first league title in 30 years, however, was halted by the COVID-19 crisis.

Before football across Europe was brought to a standstill in March, Liverpool required just 2 more wins to ensure Premier League glory.

Anfield celebrations postponed

Widespread hope of course remains that top-level English football will imminently resume, with an announcement on the part of the Premier League yesterday afternoon having seen June 17th pencilled in as a provisional return date:

Upon football getting back underway in England, Liverpool will of course be expected to clinch the title within weeks, requiring just 6 further points from a possible 27.

As outlined above, however, when the Reds finally do clinch long-overdue domestic glory, it will not be at Anfield.

After it was first revealed that up to 6 of the Premier League’s remaining clashes would, at the request of police, be played out at neutral venues, confirmation that Liverpool’s title-clinching outing is set to be amongst these fixtures followed a short time ago:
