Liverpool’s Sadio Mane would swap Champions League to win AFCON

Mane lifts CL with Liverpool

Liverpool lifted their first Champions League trophy since 2005 earlier this month.

It would also be Liverpool’s first trophy since Jurgen Klopp took charge.

Liverpool beat fellow Premier League outfit Tottenham in the final, courtesy of goals coming from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

The Reds win over Spurs was also their 6th ever Champions League trophy. They will now face Chelsea for the European Super Cup in August.

Sadio Mane would play the full 90 minutes of the CL final.

Mane is now on international duty with Senegal, competing in the African Cup of Nations.

Senegal have played one match so far at the tournament, beating Tanzania 2-0.

Their next clash is against Algeria on June 27th.

Ahead of said clash, Mane has made a rather big claim, stating that he would swap Champions League glory to win the AFCON:

“It is up to us to achieve something great.

“Of course we are one of the favourites, we cannot hide from that. But this standing is not enough to go all the way.

“Winning with my country, which has never won the Africa Cup of Nations, would be magnificent.

“I am even ready to swap a Champions League to win an Africa Cup of Nations. The return to Dakar would be extraordinary. This is my biggest and most crazy dream.” As quoted by AS.

Given the fact that the Champions League is the most coveted prize in European club football, it is a pretty bold statement from Mane.
