Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino injury update before Watford

Liverpool vs Watford

Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Wednesday night when Watford visit Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are top of the Premier League once again.

The Reds drew 0-0 at Man United on Sunday to move a point clear of Man City at the top of the table.

Yet the tough games keep coming, as Watford are flying high right now.

Javi Gracia’s Hornets are leading the ‘best of the rest’ league sitting seventh in the division.

Last weekend Watford beat Cardiff City 5-1 in south Wales.

Roberto Firmino injury update

Roberto Firmino was injured for Liverpool on Sunday at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian was subbed out the game in the first half, while Daniel Sturridge came off the bench.

Firmino sustained an ankle injury against United.

The South American incurred the injury in a freak circumstance as Firmino landed awkwardly on his right ankle when he tried to play a simply ball forward to Mo Salah.

While Firmino was able to continue for several minutes after the incident, eventually he was subbed out the match.

After the match Jurgen Klopp signalled that Firmino could miss the Watford game. He said:

Unfortunately, I have no clue (how bad the injury is). It was something with the ankle, that’s for sure.

Bobby said at first he could carry on but then he showed it didn’t work.

I don’t know exactly; it is Bobby, so it will be quicker than with all the others but first we have to know what it is exactly – and we don’t know at the moment.

The Liverpool striker left Old Trafford on crutches.

However in a positive sign, Firmino was wearing flip-flops and not a protective boot.

How Liverpool may line up against Watford

If Firmino misses out, Klopp seems to have two options.

Daniel Sturridge could replace Firmino as a like-for-like change. The England striker could play centre-forward.

Alternatively Mo Salah could be shifted into a more central role, while Xherdan Shaqiri could start on the wing.
