Following the announcement of Lucas Leiva’s move to Serie A side Lazio, the Liverpool squad have this evening paid homage to their former teammate.
Lucas, a 30-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder who can also play as a centre-half, had been at Anfield for ten years, having arrived at the club from Gremio in 2007.
His wholehearted, all-action displays endeared the 24-time capped international to fans of the Merseyside club, with the South American having long been regarded as something of a cult hero in Liverpool.
In addition to being a beloved character amongst fans of the club, Lucas was oft-heralded as a top-class teammate by his fellow Liverpool stars, with the Selecao midfielder’s incredible attitude on the pitch only matched by his brilliance as a person off it.
And, this evening, Lucas’ now-former Anfield teammates have taken to social media to prove just how keenly felt the absence of the Gremio youth product will be in the club’s dressing room, posting a touching tribute to the Lazio-bound enforcer:
