Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho is set to miss his side’s Premier League matchup with Crystal Palace this weekend with a ‘back injury’, as per a report from the official Liverpool website.
On the move?
Coutinho missed Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture versus Watford last Saturday, as well as the club’s Champions League qualifying matchup with Hoffenheim on Tuesday night.
The official reason provided was that the Brazilian is struggling with injury, but many have speculated that he is in fact holding out for a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
The Blaugrana have been heavily linked with a move for Coutinho since selling Neymar to PSG earlier this month, and reports claim that the 25-year-old is very keen on making the move to the Camp Nou.
In addition, Barca general manager Pep Segura last night revealed that moves for both Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele are ‘close’ to completion.
Today’s news that Coutinho has been omitted from the Reds’ squad for Saturday’s Crystal Palace clash at Anfield will no doubt only serve to ramp up speculation that the former Inter Milan star is indeed close to a La Liga switch.
