Mohamed Salah’s penalty for Liverpool vs Newcastle
Newcastle fell behind to Liverpool at Anfield in the first half on Boxing Day.
After the Magpies failed to clear their lines, Dejan Lovren smashed home a rocket to open the scoring.
Early in the second half Liverpool doubled their lead from the penalty spot.
Mohamed Salah was the creator of his own spot-kick.
The Liverpool forward broke into the Newcastle box on the right hand side.
Without question Paul Dummett put his hand on Salah’s arm as he raced into the box.
But did Salah use that opportunity to con the ref into pointing to the spot?
Salah fell dramatically in the Toon box to ensure Mike Dean blew his whistle.
Mohamed Salah backlash
Most would agree that Salah deserved a penalty against Newcastle.
However that didn’t stop the detractors from voicing their opinions on social media.
Of course, it’s hard not to have sympathy for Newcastle fans who saw Kenedy denied a penalty last weekend against Fulham when he was tugged in the box.
Some believe that Mo Salah should be punished for diving against Newcastle.
That will never happen.
Social media reaction
Perez elbowed in the face = not a pen.
Salah brushed by an arm = pen.

Mo Salah deceived the referee by exaggerated dive. Retrospective action surely @FA

Wolves game Perez gets elbowed in the face, no pen. Fulham game Kenedy he’s dragged when jumping for header, no pen. Salah gets the tiniest of touches and flings himself to the ground, pen. @fa standard of refereeing is shocking #NUFC
