Liverpool’s midfield down to bare bones as Jurgen Klopp confirms key duo will miss Brentford game

Liverpool’s midfield down to bare bones as Jurgen Klopp confirms key duo will miss Brentford game

Brentford vs Liverpool

Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off will see Brentford play host to Liverpool.

The Bees have so far enjoyed a solid start to life in England’s top division and, on their current form, look likely to avoid the drop.

Brentford have so far picked up wins over Arsenal and Wolves, whilst also drawing with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

Their only loss so far this term has come against Brighton and they have also only conceded two goals all season, which is currently the 2nd best defensive record in the division.

As a result, Brentford likely fancy their chances of picking something up at home to Liverpool.

The Reds, though, are of course no pushover and head into the weekend’s games sat joint-top of the Premier League table with Chelsea.

Thiago & Keita out of Brentford clash

Ahead of the game on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp would speak to the press on Friday.

The German discussed a number of topics in his presser, including providing several injury updates.

On Thiago, Jurgen Klopp stated he was not sure when the Spaniard will be back but it is likely to be after the international break, meaning he is out of the Brentford game:

“Not clear when he’s back. A calf muscle issue. So…after the int’l break, probably. I don’t think any time earlier.”

In a further blow to Liverpool’s midfield, Klopp also stated that Naby Keita will be out vs Brentford:

“Nothing serious but it keeps him out of Brentford, for sure. A little longer maybe, we will see. Painful and we have to see how he deals with it. Not cool. A good pre-season and played a lot of games but it happens.”

Said injuries, as well as the one to Harvey Elliot, means that Liverpool are now down to the bare bones in midfield and are likely going to have to deploy Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and academy star Curtis Jones vs Brentford.
