Liverpool’s Konate explains why he was surprised when facing Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool stopper Ibrahima Konate has spoken out about his experience facing Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Konate & Liverpool

Ibrahima Konate would be signed by Liverpool from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window to add some quality depth to the Reds’ backline.

Konate was handed his competitive debut for Liverpool vs Crystal Palace, following his move from RB Leipzig over the summer.

Konate started the tie and completed the full 90 minutes, of course keeping a clean sheet in the process.

The defender received praise from Jurgen Klopp following the match, with the German labelling Konate’s debut as ‘top’.

However, the Frenchman had to wait another three game weeks to finally make his second PL appearance.

Said appearance would come against Manchester United. The Merseysiders won the tie 5-0 and Konate put on a stellar showing.

Konate on Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Konate would, of course, be tasked with stopping Cristiano Ronaldo during that game.

The Portuguese is one of the best players in the world despite his age and has continued to be a prolific goalscorer this season as well.

However, vs Liverpool, Konate and co. were able to keep CR7 from causing any real threat.

Now, in a recent interview with the Premier League, Konate has explained why he was surprised when facing Cristiano Ronaldo:

“Yes, It’s the first time (I’ve faced him).

“I was surprised because he’s one of the best players in the world, but he’s only human like me. He has two arms and two legs.

“I had to be focused on my game with the team and it was good, it was ok.”
