Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp & Van Dijk win Premier League December awards

Premier League awards for December go to Liverpool duo

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk have picked up Premier League manager of the month and player of the month respectively for December.

It was a very positive holiday period for the pair.

Liverpool went top and strengthened their grip on the Premier League’s top spot with several incredibly important wins.

They started the month off with a dramatic last gasp winner in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

That was followed up by comfortable wins over Burnley and Bournemouth.

Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-0

They then beat Manchester United 3-1 in what would be Jose Mourinho’s final game for the club.

Wins over Wolves and Newcastle followed before the most impressive result of the month against Arsenal.

Virgil van Dijk was incredibly important in all of those results too.

Who would have thought a £70million or more transfer could be a bargain?!

He achieved four clean sheets during the month and only conceded an amazing three goals.

His incredible performances lead to him winning the award, making him the first defender to win the award since Jan Vertonghen in March 2013.

“It was a very successful but difficult month”

Now, Jurgen Klopp has been speaking about December and his award.

“It’s nice, the icing on the cake,” explained Klopp to the Premier League’s official website.

“It was a very successful but difficult month.

“Each game felt like the most important one of the season. It was unbelievable. The intensity was massive but that’s what made it a special month.”

When asked about the secret to Liverpool’s form, he put it down to his side’s teamwork.

“One hundred per cent teamwork,” he continued.

“I know a few things about football but my best skill is to bring really good people together.

“I lead that group, that’s true, and I have to make final decisions but I can only make good decisions if the information I get is brilliant.

“With the group I have here, if you can mix up the potential of the group with the best attitude you can get, you get quality. That’s what we did in December.”
