Klopp made aware of Leeds United by Milner
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp goes up against Leeds United for the first time in his career, hosting the Championship club in the EFL Cup at Anfield tonight.
Leeds United are still considered one of the “biggest clubs” in England despite dropping out of the Premier League all the way back in 2004.
Having come through the Leeds academy, James Milner quite clearly has a soft spot for the Yorkshire club, as revealed by Jurgen Klopp and Jordan Henderson in today’s match programme.
Milner on Leeds United
“Leeds are one of the ‘great teams’ of England I believe”, writes Jurgen Klopp. “Big history, big support.
“I know this because James Milner always tell me, again and again and again. Millie has told me all of the great things about this club and this city – even when I do not ask him.
“He doesn’t like the fact I support Huddersfield Town in the Championship because my best friend David Wagner is there.
“So I am sorry for this Millie – but I hope Huddersfield finish as the top Yorkshire team this season”.
Captain Jordan Hendeson also was quoted in the matchday programme discussing James Milner’s love of Leeds.
“As soon as the draw was made the first person I thought of was James Milner, because he never shuts up about his beloved Leeds. He never tires of telling us the main result he looks out for are Leeds and Guiseley.”
You can just imagine James Milner going on and on about the history of Leeds to a host of uninterested faces during Liverpool training.
