Liverpool’s fans express fresh Naby Keita hope following dazzling pre-season display: ‘He’s so so good’

The Liverpool faithful have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to react to the starring performance of Naby Keita in the club’s meeting with Mainz.

Kilian’s own goal the difference

Jurgen Klopp’s men got their pre-season preparations back underway a short time ago.

Amid a training camp in Austria, the Premier League giants made the trip to the Untersberg-Arena, for a friendly clash with Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05.

The outing marked Liverpool’s first 90 minutes since the close of last season’s Premier League campaign, with Klopp and co. having no doubt been keen to get off to a positive start.

And, when all was said and done in Grodig, emerge victorious is precisely what the Reds managed.

A solitary goal proved the difference between the sides upon the full-time whistle sounding, after Luca Kilian put through his own net with 86 minutes on the clock.

‘What a player’

So early in the respective clubs’ preparations for the new season, it should have come as little surprise to see both Liverpool and Mainz looking somewhat rusty this evening, amid a largely forgettable 90 minutes.

There were, however, a couple of individual performances which certainly caught the eye on the part of the former.

The first was Ibrahima Konate, who looked completely unfussed, and in firm control of Mainz’s attack at the heart of Liverpool’s backline.

Without doubt the standout performer on the day, though, proved Naby Keita.

Guinean midfielder Keita has of course endured an altogether underwhelming stint on Merseyside, since arriving from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2018.

On Friday, though, the 26-year-old, so often hampered by injury woes, reminded the Liverpool faithful of exactly what he is capable of, when fit and firing.

Keita absolutely shone across his 45 minutes on the pitch versus Mainz, lighting up the Untersberg-Arena with flicks, tricks, pinpoint passing and, above all, bundles of energy.

And it is safe to say that fans of the Reds were impressed with what they witnessed, with just a small sample of the social media reaction showcased below:
