Liverpool track prodigious German starlet

According to reports across the English media this morning, Premier League giants Liverpool are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, following yet another sensational performance from the youngster.

Prodigious talent

Havertz, an 18-year-old attacking midfielder, has long been hailed as one of the most young promising talents in German football.

Upon making his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen last year, the technically-gifted starlet became the club’s youngest ever player to appear in the German top-flight, at just 17 years and 126 days old.

He has since gone on to establish himself as a regular for Die Werkself, starting in 15 Bundesliga fixtures last season, while racking up 4 goals and 6 assists.

While his stellar work for Leverkusen had already alerted many of Europe’s top clubs to Havertz’s talents, it is a recent appearance for Germany’s U19s which has ramped up competition for his signature.

Star performer

This past Wednesday, Havertz led Die Mannschaft’s youths to a 5-1 win over Belarus in their first European Championship qualifier.

The starlet captained his side, before netting an incredible four goals from his midfield berth, as well as picking up the assist for Germany’s only other strike.

Unsurprisingly, German media has since been inundated with articles heaping praise on Havertz, with the Alemannia Aachen youth product already drawing comparisons with the likes of Michael Ballack and Mesut Ozil.

Suitors

While most of European football’s heavyweights are known to maintain an interest in Havertz’s services, it is Liverpool who have today been named as the most seriously considering a bid.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of the talents of his fellow countryman, and will reportedly consider a bid next summer.

Along with the Reds, both Arsenal and Manchester United are keeping tabs on the situation.
