Liverpool supporters from The Anfield Wrap have blamed the length of grass on their club’s defeat to Manchester City.
The Merseyside club’s gap at the top of the Premier League was reduced to four points as Pep Guardiola’s won 2-1.
The grass at the Etihad proved to be City’s secret weapon with Guardiola making it longer to prevent Liverpool’s passing, according to the Liverpool fan show.
Length of the grass blamed for Liverpool’s loss to City
The Anfield Wrap stated claims that Guardiola had worked on the pitch to prevent Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.
City’s plan was to control the Reds’ transitioning, doing so by increasing the length of the grass at the Etihad.
The champions’ plan clearly worked as they managed to nullify Liverpool’s attacking threat.
The presenter of the show claimed:
“I could not believe the length of the Manchester City pitch.
“The amount to which it cut up, it looked like a pitch that had been prepared for one thing, and that was to stop fast passing.”
Another guest speaking on the show stated:
“Pep spoke pre-match and post-match about how Liverpool only need split seconds to change games to tear you to shreds, that Liverpool’s transition is one of the scariest things in world football.
“Obviously that’s the element they wanted to kill and control as much as they could, and the grass was one of the ways that they thought they could do that.”

I have to say, that having seen exclusive pictures of the Etihad pitch ahead of Thursday’s game, Liverpool fans may have a point about the length of the grass pic.twitter.com/juJQwmgUIE

Liverpool fans are a desperate bunch, first saying that the goal-line technology doesn’t work properly and now that the grass was to long at the ethiad. The desperation to win something is embarrassing.

Man City who play a quick passing game have the pitch with longer grass to stop Liverpool? That’s a classic and totally deluded.
