Liverpool reportedly lining up Cantwell as potential replacement for Lallana

Lallana set for Liverpool exit

Adam Lallana joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014.

The Englishman had previously enjoyed a fruitful spell with Southampton before making the switch to Merseyside.

But since Liverpool signed Lallana, he has endured a rather frustrating time at Anfield, largely due to his injury woes.

After nearly six years at the club, Lallana has made just 176 appearances across all competitions for the European champions.

And now it looks as though the 31-year-old’s stint with Liverpool is coming to an end.

Lallana’s current contract is set to expire in the summer, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that Liverpool are not in discussions with the former Southampton standout over a new deal.

As a result, it looks as though Lallana will be a free agent in the summer.

A number of clubs have already been linked with the attack-minded midfielder, including Leicester City and Lazio.

Cantwell to replace Lallana?

And with Lallana seemingly heading towards the Liverpool exit door, it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s side have been looking at a potential replacement for him.

As per the Mirror, citing The Athletic, Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell is being lined up as a potential replacement for Lallana.

Cantwell has been a bright spark for a struggling Norwich side this term.

In 28 Premier League outings, Cantwell has netted six and provided two assists.

The report from the Mirror also claims that as well as Lallana, Liverpool will lose Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

As such, given the fact that Cantwell can play out wide or through the middle, he could fill the gap left by both Lallana and Shaqiri, if he indeed signs for the Reds.
