Mesut Ozil & Barcelona
This week, one of the big transfer rumours in Spain is Mesut Ozil’s possible move from Arsenal to Barcelona.
The Ozil rumours come after the German World Cup winner excelled for Arsenal in the north London derby win over Tottenham.
Ozil set up Arsenal’s opener, while the playmaker had a superb shift against Spurs.
On Tuesday Mesut Ozil was featured on the front page of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona have made an enquiry to Arsenal regarding Ozil and the asking price this coming January is 20 million euros.
For Barcelona, Mundo Deportivo believe Ozil fits all the requirements: A world class player, who can play in the Champions League and is available in January.
Arsenal star is problematic
According to Sport on Wednesday, the Ozil deal isn’t straightforward.
It’s claimed that Barca football director Raul Sanllehi is the man leading the Ozil deal inside the Camp Nou.
Sanllehi has reportedly met Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut in London recently to discuss his client’s possible move.
But while Sanllehi is keen for Ozil to join Barcelona, not everyone at the club shares his enthusiasm.
Sport sum up the Ozil situation as follows:
Nobody doubts the quality of Ozil, but several directors consider this signing untimely.
Barcelona would be paying 20 million euros to Arsenal for a footballer who ends contract on June 30 and, in addition, there are serious doubts about how he would adapt to the Blaugrana dressing room.
There are worries that Ozil disappears on the pitch while his personal life already led him to leave Real Madrid a few seasons ago.
Sport believe that PSG’s Angel Di Maria could be a better target for Barcelona in January.
Impact on Liverpool
If Barcelona turn away from Ozil, will Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho once again be labelled Barcelona’s top target?
Liverpool have remained steadfast in their refusal to sell Coutinho.
