Liverpool may mould Adam Lallana to be more like Chelsea’s Jorginho

Adam Lallana

Bradford 1 – Liverpool 3

Liverpool won their second pre-season match of the summer on Sunday, beating Bradford City 3-1.

The reigning European champions opened their pre-season with a 6-0 win at Tranmere.

On Sunday, James Milner scored a brace and Rhian Brewster got the other in the win at Bradford.

Adam Lallana vs Bradford

Adam Lallana started the match against Bradford, playing the first 45 before Fabinho replaced him.

Lallana was deployed in an unfamiliar role on Sunday.

He was positioned in the centre of a three-man midfield, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

Rather than being stationed in a more advanced role, Lallana was used in a deep-lying position instead.

Adam Lallana could be more like Chelsea’s Jorginho

After the game, Jurgen Klopp discussed Lallana’s role in the first-half.

The Liverpool manager compared his England international to Chelsea’s Jorginho:

Adam is the kind of player who can play that and he enjoys this ‘Jorginho role’ – I hope Maurizio Sarri doesn’t see the games or he will make an offer!

It is about getting Adam rhythm, bringing him in early and doing things he is naturally good at: small spaces, passing the ball, and then from time to time offering the runs in behind as well, and together with Milly (James Milner) that is possible. For us it is another option.

He needs a bit of luck, like we all do in life. We have to come through without injuries, that would be cool, and then we have a couple of new players, I would say, this season.

Who will be Chelsea’s penalty-taker in 2019-20?

Last season, Eden Hazard ended the season as Chelsea’s penalty-taker.

However, Hazard has now joined Real Madrid.

Jorginho began last season in charge of Chelsea’s spot-kicks.

Will the Italian get the job again this season under Frank Lampard?
