Liverpool & Man City stars dominate Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year nominations/Jordan Henderson misses out

The PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year nominees have been announced on Thursday, August 13th.

Liverpool dominate

Unsurprisingly, the six players nominated for this year’s award come, for the most part, from Liverpool and Manchester City.

The former, of course, enjoyed a historic 2019/20 league campaign, which saw them notch a club-record 99 points, en route to clinching their first-ever Premier League title.

This, in turn, has seen a trio of Reds stars named amongst the nominees.

The players in question come in the form of Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

Mane racked up 18 goals and nine assists in the Premier League this past season, whilst TAA and van Dijk helped Liverpool to keep the tightest defence in the English top-flight.

Alexander-Arnold also broke the Premier League assist record for a defender for the 2nd consecutive season, notching 13 in 38 outings.

Henderson misses out

From Manchester City, both Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne have earned nominations, with the former having of course matched Thierry Henry’s single season assist record of 20.

The 6-man shortlist is capped off by Jamie Vardy, who won the 2019/20 Premier League Golden Boot:

There was, however, one big name omitted from the shortlist.

The player in question is of course Jordan Henderson, who captained Liverpool throughout their title-winning campaign, and recently won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award.
