Liverpool & Man City have backed their managers – Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho & Manchester United

After several weeks in the shadows following his exit from Manchester United, Jose Mourinho returned to TV screens on Saturday.

Mourinho is currently in Qatar, where the sacked Man United manager appeared as a pundit on Bein Sports.

So what did Mourinho have to say about leaving Old Trafford? Sadly nothing.

Prior to Mourinho’s TV appearance, the Times confirmed that Mourinho wasn’t allowed to talk about those topics.

Mourinho signed a confidentiality agreement on his Man United exit which prohibited him talking about what happened this season.

Liverpool & Man City backed their managers

Barred from discussing Man United head-on, people were on the lookout for little digs from Mourinho.

Perhaps that came in a discussion of United’s two biggest rivals: Liverpool and Man City.

During a lengthy monologue from Mourinho about what it’s like being a manager at the highest level, the Portuguese touched on Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

Mourinho noted that both Guardiola at City and Klopp at Liverpool struggled in their early days.

So how did Man City and Liverpool react? For Mourinho, it was by backing their managers in the transfer market.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp

When analysing Guardiola’s movements in the market, Mourinho picked on how City overhauled their fullbacks in one summer.

After twelve months at the club, Guardiola shipped Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Aleksandar Kolerov out the club.

Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo arrived in Manchester.

When it came to Liverpool, Mourinho picked on all the players who Klopp has signed since arriving at Anfield.

It was a long, long list.

Was this Mourinho’s way of saying Man United never backed him in a similar fashion at Old Trafford?
