Liverpool vs Man City: Bad news for Sergio Aguero

Liverpool vs Man City

On Wednesday night, one of the biggest matches of the season will play out at Anfield.

Liverpool will host Man City in the Champions League quarterfinals first-leg.

From a Premier League perspective, the draw is a bit of a downer. There were five English teams in the UCL last-16, but they’ll only be one representative left in the semifinals.

Of course, Liverpool are the only side who have beaten Man City in the Premier League this season.

Bad news for Sergio Aguero

Man City are likely to be without star striker Sergio Aguero this midweek.

Aguero has been out with a knee injury for a few weeks already. Indeed, the Argentine failed to take part in last weekend’s Premier League match at Everton.

As reported in the Sun, Pep Guardiola is doubtful over Aguero’s involvement in this week’s Champions League match:

We will see about Sergio. Still he didn’t train. Hopefully he is much better.

In these situations it is day by day. Hopefully he can help us. Maybe not in the beginning — maybe the bench.

We have United and after that Liverpool in the second leg. Maybe we have to change the system and have six strikers to win the game.

We need Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Lukas Nmecha and Raheem Sterling — everybody.

Graeme Souness: Man City will beat Liverpool

In his weekly column in the Sunday Times, Graeme Souness explained why City should have the edge over Liverpool.

While accepting that Liverpool have the stars to turn over the Sky Blues, Souness feels compelled to back Pep Guardiola’s men:

I expect City to go through and I have a sneaky feeling that they can go on and win the tournament this year. They’re a team not showing inferiority on any level against anyone.

If you picked a team from the 22 players who will start, you’re picking more City players.
