Naby Keita

Liverpool legend believes club’s new signing will be a “real sensation”

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes that new signing Naby Keita will be a “real sensation” in the Premier League.

The Reds claimed a historic victory at the Etihad yesterday evening as they beat Manchester City 2-1 to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Thompson, who claims to have kept a close key on the Red Bull Leipzig midfielder, believes Keita’s all-round ability will prove to be a fantastic addition to Liverpool’s squad.

“This guy will give us what we’ve lacked”

Having reached an agreement with Leipzig last summer, Keita will join Liverpool as of 1 July in a deal worth a reported £48m.

Former Liverpool player Thompson believes that the Guinean midfielder will be a fantastic addition to the Reds’ squad.

“They’ve already strengthened with the signing of Keita from Leipzig. I think he is absolutely terrific.

“I was watching him against just last week in the Europa League and my goodness, this guy will probably give us what we’ve lacked.

“In that three behind the front three – he gives you goals, he gives you assists, he gives you energy and he’s a nasty little character.

“There is only James Milner who will really put his foot in and I think this guy could be a real sensation in the Premier League.”

Manchester City (1) 1-2 (5) Liverpool

Liverpool made light-work of beating the soon-to-be Premier League champions Manchester City as goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino saw the Reds reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered an early scare as Gabriel Jesus netted for City after just two minutes, however, they were unable to conjure up any further response as both Salah and Firmino netted record-equalling ninth goals of this Champions League campaign.
