Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on the best player he has worked with

Jurgen Klopp jets off to South Africa

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has taken the opportunity to travel to South Africa during the international break.

Klopp was a special guest speaker at a charity event in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Wednesday evening.

The Liverpool boss touched on a range of topics, including why he chose to coach the Merseyside giants.

Klopp reveals the best player he has ever coached

One of the most intriguing questions put to Klopp was who the best player he has ever coached is.

The Liverpool manager did not pick any of his current crop of players, which is something of a surprise considering the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah could have all been mentioned.

Instead, Klopp plumped for a Borussia Dortmund star.

Klopp: “Best player I’ve ever coached? Mario Gotze. He was unbelievable. The biggest improvement, though, was Lewandowski.”

Gotze returned to Borussia Dortmund and after overcoming a serious illness is now back playing again.

Lewandowski meanwhile is at Bayern Munich and the pair played against each other this past weekend – Dortmund were defeated at home 3-1.

Klopp on why he chose Liverpool and the season so far

Jurgen Klopp also discussed why he chose Liverpool and the 2017/2018 season so far.

“Why Liverpool? I had an offer of another historical English club two years ago, but I never felt comfortable with how they understood football. It didn’t feel right. When Liverpool called, I can’t explain it. It was right.”

On the campaign so far, Klopp said: “We have to improve, 100%. But we will. We are fine and the owners are happy. Liverpool is a fantastic club, and my aim is to win the Premier League with it.”
