Liverpool lose Dejan Lovren before Watford
When the Liverpool team sheet was announced before Saturday’s match with Watford, there was a surprise in the Reds defence.
Joel Matip was picked to partner Virgil Van Dijk rather than Dejan Lovren.
It was revealed that Lovren had to miss the Watford game due to an injury. A minor ankle problem ruled Dejan Lovren out of the game at Anfield.
Since Van Dijk’s arrival from Southampton, Lovren has established himself as Jurgen Klopp’s number two pick at the heart of his backline.
Liverpool lose Emre Can vs Watford
Klopp’s injury problems worsened in the first half against the Hornets.
Mohamed Salah started the match on fire with a Leo Messi-esque golazo after just four minutes.
Salah, scoring his 25th Premier League goal of the season to move above Tottenham’s Harry Kane in the scoring charts, scored a wonderful solo effort which left his Watford marker on his backside.
But after 27 minutes German international Emre Can was forced out the game. Can was replaced by James Milner.
Can went down with what appeared to be a lower back problem.
The midfielder limped out the game to warm applause from the home faithful.
But how bad will Can’s injury prove to be? After coming off the pitch the midfielder instantly headed down the tunnel to assess the nature of the problem.
Liverpool’s next match is against Crystal Palace at the end of the month following the two week international break.
Klopp will be hoping his injury problems have improved by the time the Eagles match comes around.
