Liverpool icon Daniel Agger reportedly arrested in Russia as part of anti-Putin protests

Agger arrested?
A very odd story is developing in Russia on Monday as it has come to light that supposedly former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has been detained in Russia having taken part in protests.
The former Liverpool and Denmark international spent 8 years at Liverpool and made 175 Premier League appearances for the club before finally leaving in in 2014 for Danish side Brondby. Now 36, he has been retired for the last 4-plus years having ended his playing career in 2016.
He was arrested for reportedly becoming involved with the protests in response to Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny’s arrest upon his return to the country having received treatment for a suspected poisoning.

Should this be the case, he could face a fine of between 10,000 – 20,000 rubles, compulsory work, or an arrest for up to 15 days. Agger has supposedly been in custody for the last two days.
Conflicting reports
However, there are conflicting reports as to whether it is in fact the Daniel Agger that used to play for Liverpool that is the man to have been arrested. A man with the name of Daniel Agger but with a different date of birth has supposedly been identified.

Agger himself has little, if any, connection to Russia. He has never played for a Russian club and known family members or spouses are not Russian either. So why he would be present in the country is a complete mystery.
He has also tweeted today in response to a video of him from Anfield Watch.

It is possible he could still have access to his phone but this story is one that is set to develop over the coming days as the search for the truth of Agger’s situation goes on.
