Liverpool handed timely personnel boost ahead of Man City

Liverpool star Fabinho, according to reports, looks set to be available for the club's upcoming Premier League title showdown with Manchester City.

For those not aware, Brazilian international Fabinho had emerged as something of a doubt to feature this coming Sunday, when Jurgen Klopp's troops are set to make the trip to the Etihad for a top-of-the-table clash with Pep Guardiola's City.

This comes after the midfielder was involved in a nasty clash of heads during the Reds' Champions League meeting with Benfica on Tuesday.

Speaking on the back of the action coming to a close at the Estadio da Luz, Jurgen Klopp was quick to assure that Fabinho was 'fine':

“It’s a cut. He’s fine. That’s how it looks,” the German explained.

“He had a cut in the back of his head and obviously he has no hair to hold the blood back, that’s why they needed a bit of time.”

Concerns, though, had nevertheless since spread, amid the suggestion that the former Monaco standout may have picked up a concussion.

But, as alluded to above, late on Thursday, such fears have been firmly quelled.

As per reliable Liverpool reporter David Lynch, Fabinho has 'avoided any concussion symptoms', and will therefore 'be available to face Manchester City'.

Diaz the star of the show

Fabinho's influence, of course, proved key once more, as Liverpool ran out eventual 3-1 winners at Benfica to put one foot firmly in the Champions League's semi-final round.

An Ibrahima Konate header opened the scoring in Lisbon, before Luiz Diaz's cushioned layoff teed up Sadio Mane to slot home from close range, doubling the visitors' advantage just beyond the half-hour mark.

Benfica did manage to pull one back courtesy of star man Darwin Nunez early in the 2nd-half, but Man of the Match Diaz's composed finish late on ensured that Liverpool will head back to Anfield next Wednesday in possession of what many no doubt view as an insurmountable advantage.
