Liverpool handed double midfield boost before Atletico

Jurgen Klopp

Premier League giants Liverpool have, on Monday evening, been handed a pair of altogether timely boosts on the personnel front.

Atleti showdown

Jurgen Klopp’s men will of course be back in action on Wednesday night.

Turning their attentions towards matters on the continent, the Reds are set to welcome La Liga champions Atletico Madrid to Anfield, for a highly-anticipated Champions League showdown.

Liverpool will head into proceedings eyeing a rare bounce-back result to this point in the campaign, after being held to a 2-2 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion this past weekend.

Securing such a win, though, will be easier said than done.

This comes with Diego Simeone’s Atleti no doubt eyeing revenge, after slipping to a 3-2 defeat in the reverse fixture at the Wanda Metropolitano just two weeks ago, amid controversial circumstances.

Reds returnees

But, as outlined above, with less than 48 hours to go before the action gets underway on Merseyside, on Monday, Liverpool’s hopes have been afforded a timely boost.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad has of course been decimated by injuries of late, with the club’s ranks in the middle of the park having been particularly hard hit.

All of Harvey Elliott, James Milner, Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho have spent time on the treatment table over the last couple of weeks.

As confirmed by a series of photos to have surfaced online, though, today, the latter two of this quintet returned to first-team training:

Both Thiago and Fabinho could therefore yet play a role versus Atletico on Wednesday night.
