Liverpool handed double midfield boost ahead of Brighton clash

Jurgen Klopp

The latest word emanating from the training ground of Premier League giants Liverpool spells altogether positive news for the club’s hopes of carrying a fine recent spell of form beyond the coming weekend.

Reds continue to roll

Jurgen Klopp’s men were of course back in action on Tuesday night.

Fresh off the back of one of the finest days in the club’s famed history – a 5-0 drubbing of arch rivals Manchester United – the Reds made the trip to Deepdale, for a meeting with Preston North End.

Liverpool headed into proceedings aiming to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, keeping alive early-season hopes of an unprecedented quadruple in the process.

And, when all was said and done, emerge triumphant once more is precisely what the visitors managed.

2nd-half strikes on the part of fringe pair Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi ultimately proved enough to guide Klopp and co. to a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Double boost

Amid a 4-game win streak since the latest international break came to a close earlier this month, however, one concern has remained prevalent at Liverpool, in the form of developments on the personnel front.

The Reds’ ranks in the middle of the park have been absolutely decimated of late, with Thiago Alcantara and long-term absentee Harvey Elliott having been joined on the sidelines by all of Fabinho, James Milner and Naby Keita last weekend.

In turn, with a meeting with the ever-dangerous Brighton & Hove Albion in store this weekend, it goes without saying that Jurgen Klopp could do with some long overdue positive news when it comes to his squad’s fitness.

And, on Thursday, precisely that has been forthcoming.

First, it was confirmed that Thiago, who has not featured since mid-September owing to a calf injury, has returned to first-team training:

Not only that, but Naby Keita, stretchered off on the back of a dangerous Paul Pogba challenge at Old Trafford last time out, was too spotted taking part at Kirkby:
