Simon Mignolet & Liverpool
There are just a few more days in the European transfer window.
Will a club on the continent make a move to sign Belgium international Simon Mignolet?
Mignolet has recently been ‘promoted’ at Liverpool following the departure of Loris Karius to Besiktas.
I’m proud to be part of the famous @besiktas family now. Your welcome at the airport yesterday was simply overwhelming! I will give it my all to win as many titles as possible with Beşiktaş. A big Thank You goes out to all of the Liverpool fans for the support until now – you indeed never let me walk alone. Her zaman Her yerde En büyük Kartal 🦅🦅🦅 … The Belgian is the now definite number two at Anfield behind Brazilian Alisson.
Yet Mignolet isn’t happy. The goalie has recently spoken about his situation at Liverpool, telling HLN:
That transfer from Karius does not change anything for me.
I have always been clear: I want to play. Number two or number three makes little difference.
Mignolet’s Fulham mistake
On Tuesday in his weekly column in the Daily Mail, Martin Samuel has gone after Mignolet.
Should Liverpool fans have any sympathy for the goalie’s current situation?
Samuel doesn’t think so, reminding his reading that Mignolet had the opportunity to join Fulham in the summer.
The case has been made for Mignolet being the architect of his current problem:
Simon Mignolet is upset that he is stranded as Liverpool’s reserve goalkeeper.
Mignolet had the opportunity to join Fulham this summer but was uninterested. He probably thought he could do better. And that’s his call – but if he wanted to play, he should have gone.
He won’t get the opportunity at another elite Premier League club, and he’s certainly not too good for Fulham.
For the record, Mignolet, 30, is under contract at Liverpool until 2021.
