Liverpool fringe duo confirmed to start Carabao Cup tie against Norwich

Liverpool face Norwich

For the second time since the start of the season, Liverpool will travel to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City, this time in the third round of the Carabao Cup. The Reds have begun the season strongly on all fronts, yet to taste defeat and having only dropped points once, to ten-man Chelsea.

As a result, they currently sit in second place in the Premier League, behind the blues only by virtue of alphabetical order, with both sides having scored 12 goals and conceded just one.

By contrast, Norwich are firmly rooted to the foot of the division, having conceded 14 goals and are yet to pick up their first point since being promoted last campaign. Three of those goals were shipped to Liverpool, as Jurgen Klopp’s side demolished the Canaries on the opening day of the season, and the Reds will be hoping for a repeat when the sides clash on Tuesday night.

Curtis Jones confirmed to start

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo ahead of the game, Liverpool’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed that a fringe duo will start against the Canaries tomorrow evening, in the form of Curtis Jones and Caoimhim Kelleher.

Speaking about Jones, who has only made 2 substitute appearances so far this campaign, Lijnders said:

“This competition has proven gold for us.”

“I want to give one name who is going to start tomorrow, and that’s Curtis Jones.”

“Why I want to say his name is because he will play his 50th game tomorrow and it all started with these kind of games.”

Jones made his Liverpool debut against Wolves in the FA Cup at the beginning of 2019, but had to wait almost a year to make his Premier League debut, in December of that year. With Georginio Wijnaldum having departed, the Englishman has an opportunity to nail down a spot for him in Klopp’s side, something that a performance at Norwich will surely help.
