Liverpool in a fight to sign a Barcelona midfielder

For the past few months, whenever Liverpool and Barcelona have been linked in the press it’s usually be in a transfer article on Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian star is thought to be a target for Barca, while his international coach, Tite, recently expressed his thoughts on Coutinho swapping Anfield for the Camp Nou.

But the flow of transfer news is reversed on Monday, as reports have linked Liverpool with signing a Barcelona midfielder.

What’s the story?

Gerard Romero, who works for a local Catalan radio station, took to social media on Sunday night to announce that Liverpool are battling with Roma for the signature of Barcelona star Rafinha.

24-year-old Rafinha missed the majority of the 2016-17 season with injury, while he’s under contract at Barca until 2020.

Indeed, Rafinha has a worrying injury history. Currently scheduled to be back to fitness for the start of the new season, he’s previous had an ACL injury which meant he missed almost an entire season, while he’s been out for the last 12 games for Barcelona with a meniscus problem.

It’s thought Rafinha will cost 25 million euros.

The Brazilian has scored six goals and provided two assists in 18 league appearances for the Blaugrana this season.
