Liverpool fans slam Man United for denting top-4 hopes

Liverpool fans slam Man United for denting top-4 hopes

Liverpool’s supporters have taken to social media in their numbers this evening, to take aim at Manchester United.

Soyuncu decides it

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.

The Red Devils welcomed Leicester City to Old Trafford, for a Premier League showdown.

The two sides headed into proceedings with altogether different targets in mind, with hosts United simply keen on maintaining a clean bill of health, having already secured a top-4 berth.

Leicester, on the other hand, were desperate for all three points, having seen their own Champions League hopes dealt a blow in a shock defeat to Newcastle at the weekend.

And, when all was said and done in Manchester, bag all three points is precisely what the Foxes managed.

A tense 90 minutes for Brendan Rodgers and co. eventually saw the visitors emerge on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline.

Leicester opened the evening’s scoring with ten minutes on the clock, when Luke Thomas got on the end of Youri Tielemans’ delivery to direct a wonderful volley into the top corner of David de Gea’s goal:

Hosts United quickly hit back, when Amad Diallo slipped Mason Greenwood in to dance beyond Leicester’s backline, and slot confidently into the far corner.

Twenty five minutes from time, though, the game’s telling moment arrived.

A whipped Marc Albrighton corner from the right picked out the head of Caglar Soyuncu, who went on to direct a powerful effort into the roof of the United net:

And this was all she wrote when it came to the goalscoring at Old Trafford, as Leicester took a major step towards securing Champions League football for the 2021/22 campaign.

Liverpool fume

In the process of climbing back up to 3rd, and a full eight points clear of the top-4 chasing pack in the Premier League table, the Foxes, of course, put a serious dent in the European hopes of a number of other clubs.

Chief amongst these sides are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who, just a year on from being crowned champions, have now slipped ever closer to missing out on a spot in the Champions League.

And, as outlined above, fans of the Reds have not taken the latest development in the top-4 race at all well.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to heavily rotate his starting XI this evening, with only Mason Greenwood having maintained his spot from United’s win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

This comes with the Red Devils facing a frankly ridiculous stretch of three Premier League fixtures in the space of five days.

In turn, the Liverpool faithful have made their frustration with their bitter long-time rivals clear, ahead of the meeting between the sides on Thursday night:
