Liverpool fans mock Man United for singing about Steven Gerrard’s slip v Hull [Tweets]

Man United host Hull in the EFL Cup

Manchester United host Hull in the EFL Cup semi-final at Old Trafford this evening.

For all the talk of the so-called crisis at United, even back in November, they were given little or no credit for reaching the semis of the league cup.

It’s a two-legged affair, and United will greatly fancy their chances of progressing to the final (they’re leading 1-0 through a Mkhitaryan goal at the time of writing).

Sing about Steven Gerrard

The United fans were in full voice throughout the game; winter games under the floodlights are when Old Trafford really comes alive.

But there was a curious moment in the 2nd half when a Steven Gerrard chant suddenly erupted from the Stretford End, as the United fans serenaded the ex-Liverpool captain over his infamous slip against Chelsea in 2014.

Liverpool fans were quick to pick up on it and roundly mocked United fans for their obsessive chanting about Stevie G….against Hull.

Of course, these Liverpool fans seem to have overlooked the fact that United play Liverpool next, so this wasn’t just random chanting about Gerrard; they were stoking the fires and raising the stakes ahead of the Reds’ arrival to Old Trafford…
