Liverpool fans get excited about ‘bargain of the summer’ Xherdan Shaqiri following Torino showing

Sections of Liverpool’s fanbase have tonight taken to social media to sing the praises of summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri, following the Swiss international’s performance versus Torino.

Matchup

The Reds welcomed Serie A outfit Torino to Anfield for their final pre-season clash a short time ago, as Jurgen Klopp’s men gear up for their Premier League opener versus West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

With the weekend in mind, Klopp opted for a strong starting XI, with summer signings Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho all handed starts:

Liverpool’s class shone through early on, as a quickfire pair of strikes Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum saw the Reds secure a 2-goal lead with less than 25 gone.

Torino managed to pull one back on the half-hour mark, though, through star man Andrea Belotti.

But, in the end, the pure quality available to the hosts proved too much for their Italian opponents, as substitute Daniel Sturridge rounded out the scoring in the 87th-minute.

‘Bargain’

In the aftermath of the clash, one individual has since been singled out for special praise online by Liverpool’s fans, in the form of recent recruit Xherdan Shaqiri.

The gifted Swiss star, who arrived at Anfield from Stoke City last month, was introduced at half-time this evening, setting up in a free no.10 role, and majorly impressing his side’s fans during his 45-minute cameo.

A showing filled with quality was typified by his assist for Danny Sturridge’s headed finish with 3 minutes to go, as the former Inter Milan man cut onto his wand of a left foot to dink a sumptuous lofted ball over the Torino backline and onto a plate for his Reds’ teammate.

And, despite having only seen the burly attacker line out for their side on a few pre-season occasions, large sections of Liverpool’s fanbase are already sure that they have secured themselves the bargain of the transfer window, after splashing out just £13 million on Shaqiri’s signature:
