Liverpool dealt defensive injury blow ahead of Crystal Palace

A difficult start to the season for the Reds has been compounded on Friday

A fresh injury concern at Liverpool has, on Friday, been confirmed by a number of sources online.

The opening to the new campaign, of course, has seen the subject of fitness woes take its place front and centre on the red half of Merseyside once more.

This comes after the Reds’ disappointing opening day stalemate with Fulham was soured further by an injury suffered by star midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago, in turn, are set for an extended spell out of action, joining the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the sidelines.

And yet, as alluded to above, on Friday, Liverpool’s problems have continued to deepen.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that another member of Jurgen Klopp’s defensive ranks has been force onto the treatment table.

The player in question? Joel Matip.

As per the reliable Ian Doyle, amongst others, Matip was withdrawn from training prematurely this afternoon.

This comes after the Cameroonian international pulled up with what appeared to be a groin complaint.

Though he has not yet been definitively ruled out of Liverpool’s upcoming meeting with Crystal Palace on Monday, Matip is therefore viewed as a major doubt to partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ backline.
