A fresh Mohamed Salah contract update has emerged on Wednesday, but it is not good news for Liverpool.

Salah is, of course, out of contract at Anfield in 2023 and talks over a new deal did look to have hit a brick wall some time ago.

Now, The Athletic have delivered a fresh update on the situation. They report that Mohamed Salah is going nowhere this summer, regardless of whether he signs a new contract, which is good news for Liverpool given Sadio Mane may already be heading for the exit door in the coming months.

However, beyond next summer, Salah’s future is increasingly uncertain. There have been no face-to-face talks with Liverpool and Salah’s representatives since December and, unless the 29-year-old receives a significantly improved contract offer from Liverpool, he will leave as a free agent at the end of 2022/23.

To make matters worse for Liverpool, The Athletic alleges that Salah’s preference would be to stay in the Premier League rather than head overseas.

So, not only could Liverpool lose their best player since Steven Gerrard for free, but it could also be to one of their bitter rivals.
