Not great news for Liverpool fans
Liverpool have been hit with an injury blow after boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Joe Gomez has suffered a setback during his recovery.
The Reds have had somewhat of an injury crisis at the back during the campaign.
There was a point where the only fit central defender was Virgil van Dijk available and Fabinho had to feature at centre-back against Wolves.
While their problems have eased up somewhat, possibly their second best defender after Van Dijk in Joe Gomez remains out of action.
He suffered a leg fracture during the win over Burnley in December.
Now, Jurgen Klopp has been talking about Gomez’s injury and confirmed he suffered a setback.
“More and more we found out it’s a more serious thing”
The Liverpool boss explained that he expected Gomez to be further along by now but after another scan, it turned out he wasn’t as close as they had anticipated.
“We have to wait, for sure, a couple of weeks,” Klopp explained, as quoted by the Mirror.
“We will see, it is difficult to judge in the moment.
“Obviously, it was really unlucky in that situation. The injury is not like Trent or Gini where you know ‘that’s the only thing’.
“It could have been like that, but then more and more we found out it’s a more serious thing.
“We thought three weeks ago he would be closer and then we had to make another diagnosis in which we saw that it didn’t work out so far as we wanted, that’s why he is still not in training or running on the pitch.”
