Lionel Messi has struck up an unexpected partnership at Barcelona

The new partnership

Lionel Messi has struck up an unexpected partnership with one of his newest teammates, and that comes in the form of midfielder Paulinho.

The Argentine star impressed during Tuesday’s game against Eibar and nailed a hat-trick against the side.

Though, it was his partnership with criticised summer transfer Paulinho that has caught the eyes of many including the Spanish press.

AS claim that Paulinho is Messi’s new ‘friend’ and praised his performance in which he scored and assisted.

Paulinho’s performance might well have surprised a fair few supporters on Tuesday evening and Messi may even be one of them.

Now, Messi will be hoping that the partnership they have struck up together will be able to lead them back on the right track in the coming weeks.

The Spanish press have certainly changed their tone over Paulinho regardless.

Coutinho saga to continue

While Paulinho could be the unlikely saviour for Barcelona and Lionel Messi, another man is still being targeted it seems.

Philippe Coutinho was the man that the club wanted for the majority of the summer, and Barcelona’s chairman has been talking about that saga again.

The sage was talked about for the majority of the summer but Liverpool showed their strength by refusing to sell their best player.

Barcelona’s chairman claimed that Liverpool were looking for up to €200million on deadline day for the Brazilian, a claim the Reds refuted.

Though, Barcelona officials have opened up that can of worms yet again by claiming that they did in fact demand that much in the final days of the transfer window.

Social media reacts

Regardless of the Coutinho saga, it was Paulinho who was signed in the end and Barcelona fans have been reacting to his performance against Eibar.

Safe to say, that are pleasantly surprised with the players performance.
