Lionel Messi opens up on Argentina’s Copa America defeat to Colombia

Argentina 0 – Colombia 2

Argentina kicked off their 2019 Copa America campaign versus Colombia on Saturday the 15th of June.

Along with Colombia, Argentina have drawn Paraguay and Qatar in their group.

From the above-mentioned teams, you would think that Argentina would be favourites to top Group B.

However, their first game was a complete nightmare.

While Colombia are arguably the hardest opponent for Argentina in their group, you would have still fancied a team featuring Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria to come out on top.

But two second-half strikes from Roger Martinez and Duvan Zapata gave Colombia all three points on the night.

Messi on Colombia defeat

Argentina’s next game sees them take on 2nd placed Paraguay on Thursday the 20th of June.

Messi and co. will then face Qatar on Sunday the 23rd.

Ahead of his side’s clash with Paraguay, Messi has spoken out about the defeat to Colombia, insisting that it will take a while to accept the result:

“It will take us a while to accept and process the defeat.

“We have to look at the mistakes we made, and find the positives.

“It’s not the best way to start, but if we keep lamenting and don’t move on, if we don’t pick ourselves up, we won’t be prepared to face Paraguay in the next match.

“This group is ready for this challenge and will try to succeed. This group is strong and united. We can make it.” As quoted by the Independent.
