Lille boss confirms rumoured Arsenal target Nicolas Pepe will leave the club this summer

Pepe’s time at Lille

LOSC Lille signed Nicolas Pepe in 2017 from fellow French side, SCO Angers.

Since moving to Lille, Pepe has begun to cement himself as one of the hottest prospects in Ligue 1.

The 23-year-old had an impressive debut season that saw him score 13 and assist five in 36 league outings.

Pepe has gone on to improve that tally during the 2018/19 campaign.

In 36 Ligue 1 appearances, Pepe has netted 20 and assisted 11, a superb record for a winger.

Pepe’s impressive goal contributions this past season is also a big reason why Lille have finished second in the league and secured Champions League football.

Premier League clubs circling Pepe

Despite Lille securing a place in Europe’s elite competition for the upcoming 2019/20 season, it looks as though Pepe will be on his way out of the club this summer.

Speaking in a recent interview, Lille boss Christophe Galtier confirmed that Pepe will be departing in the next transfer window:

“Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today.

“He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club. There will be a battle between the great European teams.

“I hope that he will take good amount of time to think about it, do his research, like he did when he came here and when he decided to stay here (last summer), find the right project.” As quoted by the Mail.

Pepe has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs this past year, with Arsenal perhaps the most heavily-rumoured to be interested in the winger.

Manchester United have also been linked with Pepe in recent weeks.
