Manchester City’s Leroy Sane limps off vs Liverpool

Manchester City vs Liverpool

The English top-flight is edging ever closer to a return, with the Community Shield the opening clash of the new campaign.

As Manchester City won the league, FA Cup and League Cup last season, Liverpool were given the second spot in the Community Shield.

Liverpool vs Man City is quickly becoming one of the biggest rivalries in England, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having missed out on the Premier League title by just one point in 2018/19.

Heading into the game, Liverpool had most of their first-team squad back, apart from Sadio Mane, who isn’t due to return until August 5th.

Manchester City also had a largely fit squad, with their most noticeable absentees having come in the form of Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho.

Sane injured

It would be Manchester City who got off to a flying start on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling started this season as he finished the last, in top form, with a calm finish inside 12 minutes to slot home past Allison.

David Silva, who is now in his final season with the Citizens, provided the assist for Sterling.

Despite their positive start, Man City were handed a blow shortly after.

Leroy Sane started the Community Shield tie despite reported interest from Bayern Munich.

However, Sane went down shortly after the goal, and was replaced by Gabriel Jesus.

The full extent of the German’s injury hasn’t yet been reported on, but it did not look great for Sane.
