AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci has today revealed the finest player who he has ever come up against.
Bonucci, who recently completed a shock 42 million Euro transfer to AC Milan from Juventus, has long been regarded as one of the best defenders in world football.
In fact, the Italian international’s combination of stand-up defending, immense technical ability and nack for playing defence-splitting passes set him apart as the finest stopper on the planet in the eyes of many.
While the debate as to the world’s best defender is a frequently discussed topic, it pales in comparison to the debate as to the world’s best footballer.
Fans have been arguing over whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the title of ‘the best’ for the best part of a decade now, with no clear answer likely to ever be found.
Bonucci, however, is in no two minds as to who he feels is the best player he has ever faced, with the experienced central defender discussing the matter with the Italian media following his official unveiling at AC Milan:
‘The best player in the world? Cristiano Ronaldo.’
‘He’s the best player I’ve ever faced. He has all the characteristics of a champion.’
Bonucci also named former Bianconeri and Italy teammate Andrea Pirlo as the best player he has ever played alongside:
‘Best player I’ve played with? Pirlo.’
‘Give him the ball and he’ll put it in the bank. I learned so much from Andrea.’
