Girona 0 – Barcelona 3

Another weekend, another straightforward win for Barcelona in La Liga.

The Catalans beat minnows Girona 3-0 on Saturday night in Spain.

Barcelona’s first two goals of the game were own goals. Aday diverted the ball into the Girona net in the first half, and Gorka Iraizoz Moreno did the same at the start of the second period.

Luis Suarez killed the contest with a third.

The result maintained Barca’s perfect start to the season. With six wins from six matches, Barca have a four point lead over Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid are seven points behind the Catalans.

Leo Messi & Pablo Maffeo

It’s been well-documented that Manchester City have loaned a load of players to Girona this season.

Indeed, the Sky Blues played the Spanish side in a friendly match after their respective domestic campaigns had already started in August.

Last month, it was announced that Girona have become the latest members of the City Football Group.

Pere Guardiola, Pep’s brother, is one of the key owners at Girona.

Man City have loaned five players to the club this season. They are Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno, Larry Kayode, Aleix Garcia and Pablo Maffeo.

After Saturday’s match, 20-year-old Maffeo revealed a conversation he had with Leo Messi. He said:

He [Messi] asked me a couple of things, like if I was loaned by City and how old I was. It was all good.

I had to mark him and I had to be close to him and not watch the ball.

It is difficult, not just from a football perspective, but also psychologically.

I appreciate the trust the coach placed in me.

A friend of mine wanted Ter Stegen’s shirt so I asked the goalkeeper.

Messi is the best footballer in the world, but friends come first.
