Leo Messi drops Barcelona exit hint & says he “doesn’t know” if the club did everything to sign Neymar

Leo Messi talks to Sport

It’s been a rough season for Leo Messi so far.

That’s because the Argentine is yet to feature for Barcelona.

Messi was injured during the summer, and he’s been sidelined with a calf injury ever since.

He’ll miss this weekend’s La Liga clash against Valencia.

Against that background, Messi has given an exclusive interview with Spanish paper Sport.

Sport have released complete footage of the 30-minute long interview.

Leo Messi drops Barcelona exit hint

Rumours have been circling in recent days concerning Messi’s possible Camp Nou exit.

Now 32, Messi’s contract is up in 2021.

Could David Beckham’s Inter Miami land the Barcelona icon?

In his interview with Sport, Messi dropped a hint that he could leave Barcelona, if the club stop being a winning team.

Messi’s key quote on his intention to remain at or leave the Camp Nou was as follows:

What I can say is that I want to be at Barcelona as long as possible. I’ve said throughout my career that this is my home.

But I also don’t want to have a long-term contract and only be here because of it. I want to be here because physically I’m fine, to play and be an important member of the squad.

And as I said before, I need see there’s a winning team because I want to keep winning things at this club.

For me, money or a clause don’t mean anything. Other things motivate me and the most important thing is having a winning team.

Messi “doesn’t know” if Barcelona did everything to sign Neymar

Sport also quizzed Messi on Neymar.

Neymar was tipped to rejoin Barcelona from PSG throughout the summer.

However, in the end, the Brazilian remained in Paris.

Is Messi disappointed that Neymar didn’t return to the Camp Nou? The Argentine said:

I would have loved to have Neymar back. I understand those people who are against his return and it’s understandable for what happened with ‘Ney’ and the way that he left.

But thinking about it on a sporting level, I personally think Neymar is one of the best players in the world and having him in our squad would increase our chances of achieving our objectives.

Sport then asked “do you think Barca did everything possible to sign him?” Messi replied:

To be honest, I don’t know. I didn’t have much information about how the negotiations were going to say whether or not Barcelona did everything possible.
