Leo Messi & Antonella Roccuzzo
The summer of 2017 was a big one for Leo Messi.
Away from the pitch, the Argentine legend married his childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo in a massive ceremony in their hometown of Rosario.
After the wedding, the Messis enjoyed a couple of weeks of honeymoon, while they were joined on their vacation by the Suarezs.
When it came to his career, Messi also committed his future to Barcelona.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner agreed a new contract with the Catalans that will keep him at the club until 2021. Messi will pocket £500k per week during the term of his new deal.
No gifts, charity
In the run up to Messi’s wedding, one of the stories which drew attention related to the gifts.
Instead of asking for presents, Leo and Antonella Roccuzzo asked their guests to make donations to his charity, the Leo Messi Foundation, which supports children in healthcare, education, and sport.
Spanish paper Marca have now revealed how that fundraising drive went, and the results are rather shocking.
Marca reveal that the 260 guests at Messi’s wedding only donated a total of 9,562 euros to his charity.
Stating the obvious, that’s a shockingly low amount of money.
It’s worth noting that after Messi’s wedding, his Barcelona team mate Gerard Pique reportedly lost 11,000 euros at a casino.
