Set for one more year at Goodison Park
Everton’s veteran left-back Leighton Baines has signed a new one-year contract with the Toffees, with his previous deal having been set to expire this summer.
Baines has been incredibly important for Everton since signing from Wigan all the way back in 2007.
Since then, the left-back has made 411 appearances for the Blues, scoring 38 goals and assisting a whopping 67 times.
Despite now being 34-years-old, Baines is still a dependable option in the Premier League.
As a result, Everton have moved to tie Baines down for an extra year.
“I do feel as proud as when I first signed”
As announced by the Toffees on Wednesday, Baines has signed a new one-year contract with Everton until the end of June 2020.
Speaking about his new deal, Baines is proud to sign with his boyhood club once again.
“I do feel as proud as when I first signed,” Baines explained to Everton’s official website.
“As you get older, you realise the work you need to do to sustain the level required by the Club.
“And to be judged to be at that level in the later stages of your career is testament to the work you do. You take pride in it all.
“When you look at the back end of last season and how well we played and the results we picked up against some good teams it gives us plenty of optimism going into this season.
“We are confident about what we can do and striving to achieve success.”
