Leicester’s major injury blow after Huddersfield

Leicester 3 – Huddersfield 0

After a run of five matches without a win, Leicester colleceted a must needed victory on New Year’s Day against Huddersfield.

Riyad Mahrez was the star of the show for the Foxes against the Terriers.

The Algerian winger volleyed Leicester ahead before he set up his international team mate Islam Slimani for the second.

Marc Albrighton sealed the win with a late third against David Wagner’s men.

Bad news for Wes Morgan

It’s already been a rough festive period for Leicester with regard to injuries.

Claude Puel has been without Robert Huth as he’s nursing a long term injury, while Danny Simpson is now out with a thigh injury too.

Ben Chillwell has also been out of contention with illness.

And against Huddersfield, club captain Wes Morgan was forced out the game in the first half with an injury.

Morgan has a suspected hamstring injury. Leicester will hopefully have a better understanding of the severity of the injury on Tuesday after tests.

After the game Puel commented on Morgan, saying:

It’s a bad injury, a hamstring injury. He slipped on the pitch in the first half. With all the tiredness from the games and we can see a lot of injuries with all the teams. It is difficult.

The fear is that Wes Morgan could now be out for months rather than weeks.

Better news for Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy missed the Huddersfield match through injury.

Before the game Puel confirmed that Vardy picked up a groin injury against Liverpool.

However the good news for Vardy is that his injury isn’t too serious. Puel told reporters:

Jamie isn’t long-term. He is not bad. He felt something against Liverpool and it was a precaution about him.

We will see for the next game – it’s an important game for him in the cup. We will see.

We will not take a risk, but it isn’t a bad injury.

Leicester travel to Fleetwood Town on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Vardy, of course, made his name as a striker playing for Fleetwood Town.

It would be a huge shame if the England international was injured for the cup tie.

After Huddersfield, Claude Puel then faces Chelsea in the Premier League on January 13.
