Leicester City Team News

  • Out: James Justin, Kelechi Iheanacho, Jannik Vestergaard, Danny Ward
  • Doubt: Çaglar Söyüncü, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Ryan Bertrand

Former Premier League champions Leicester City are knee-deep in the lurch across the final two match days in the top flight of English football as Dean Smith’s Foxes come into the weekend program away on Tyneside and still sitting in the bottom three, two points from safety.

It is hard to look at a Leicester side, brimming with genuine talent in all areas of the pitch, and accepting that the likes of James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans, Jamie Vardy, Wilfried Ndidi, and Timothy Castagne could be Championship players (for however long) in a matter of a few weeks. Regardless of how the Foxes have gotten to this stage, the many big names in the team must dig deep if they are to arrest their poor form and do enough to escape what was unthinkable as recently as last season.

Smith remains stripped of four players in the senior setup, with James Justin, Kelechi Iheanacho, Jannik Vestergaard, and Danny Ward guaranteed to miss out on selection due to injury. Three other questions remain in the vein of Çaglar Söyüncü, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Ryan Bertrand. Söyüncü and Dewsbury-Hall face late fitness tests, with the Turkish international likely to feature in the XI if he passes fit, while Bertrand remains a big doubt and is unlikely to feature here.
