Leeds vs Arsenal: Monchi reveals why he’s gone back to Sevilla

Sevilla sign Monchi

Sevilla confirmed the deal over the weekend.

Monchi, the well-known recruitment guru, has rejoined Sevilla after spending time at AS Roma.

For the past few months, Monchi had been linked to Arsenal.

Arsenal are in a state of flux right now as they transition from the Arsene Wenger years.

There’s been plenty of talk that the Gunners are seeking to appoint a director of football who will oversee transfers.

Arsenal fans had thought that Sven Mislinat may get that job, but he left the Gunners a few months ago.

Leeds vs Arsenal

On Monday Monchi has faced the media in Spain to discuss why he’s back at Sevilla.

He’s revealed how Leeds United’s director of football Victor Orta convinced him to take the job:

Victor Orta told me Godfather II is better than GodFather I.

I have chosen the sporting project which convinced me and which appealed to me the most. That project was that of Sevilla.

I’m here because of the total trust of the Sevilla  president, the general manager and the assistant general manager. They like me.

Do I have a message for Sevilla fans? Trust me too, I can contribute.

Monchi & Sevilla

Monchi used to work at Sevilla before he joined Roma.

Monchi worked as the director of football at Sevilla for 17 years.

That included Unai Emery’s spell at the club, however it’s now clear that that link wasn’t enough to convince Monchi to join the Gunners.
