Leeds U23 squad hints at an imminent first-team return & potential start for youngster vs Norwich

A pair of noteworthy insights into the options likely to be at the disposal of Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa this weekend have been provided on Friday night.

Canaries clash

Bielsa is of course set to lead his side back into action on Sunday afternoon.

On the back of an altogether underwhelming opening to the campaign, which has seen them notch just a solitary win across nine outings, the Whites will make the trip to Carrow Road, for a Premier League showdown with fellow strugglers Norwich City.

Leeds are no doubt fully aware that nothing but a 3-point haul will suffice against the Canaries, with Daniel Farke’s men having proven the whipping boys of the season to date.

With nine games of their own on the board, Norwich have garnered a measly two points, finding the net twice, whilst conceding on a hefty 23 occasions.

The club’s last outing, meanwhile, saw them ship 7 (SEVEN) during a trip to a below-strength Chelsea outfit.

Gelhardt to feature?

As such, it goes without saying that Marcelo Bielsa will be eyeing a dominant 3-point haul in 48 hours’ time, to finally kick into gear a campaign that has thus far flattered to deceive.

And, as outlined above, on Friday night, an insight into some of the options likely to be at the disposal of the Leeds boss at Carrow Road has been provided.

The Peacocks’ U23 outfit are back in action this evening, in a highly-anticipated Premier League 2 meeting with Arsenal.

Included in the starting XI of manager Mark Jackson, meanwhile, is summer Elland Road arrival Junior Firpo.

Spanish full-back Firpo has been forced to sit out Leeds’ last three outings across all competitions, owing to a muscular injury picked up in training. His inclusion from the off on Friday, however, hints that the 25-year-old is well on his way to a full recovery, and could yet be included in the club’s senior panel on Sunday afternoon.

Also worth noting when it comes to the Leeds U23 line-up primed to take on Arsenal is the absence of star hitman Joe Gelhardt.

Youngster Gelhardt has been introduced off the bench in each of the Whites’ last two outings, amid the long-term absence of Patrick Bamford.

And calls on the part of the club’s fanbase for their prolific starlet to be handed a first-ever senior start versus Norwich have this evening been boosted, by Gelhardt’s complete absence from Mark Jackson’s matchday setup:
